State recognition

The State of South Carolina just recognized this tribe. Apparently it has been a long process but definitely has had great results. Congratulations to the tribe and the new chief that was elected.

Indians nearby??????

Are these real Indians here? Have they always been here? This is cool.

Native Americans Up Close and Personal

It is a little surprising that very few people realize that right around the corner is a small Indian Tribe that has been in the area for many years. Ridgeville, SC is home to the Edisto Indians which was recently recognized by the state of South Carolina. The tribe has an elected Chief, two large festive gatherings each year (a pow wow and homecoming), and a tribal council. While it may not be as exciting as a visit to Cherokee NC, it is defintitely a trip worth making to see history up close and personal. Set aside a little time in May and in October and see the dancing and hear the drums of the tribes celebration. what a wonderful site to see a group of people come together and celebrate the beauty and wonder of being an American Indian.
